I does appear the site is still setting things up, but if you have a computer or laptop on the same network and you are using chrome browser, with the video playing, put the mouse in the white background area of the webpage and right click and choose cast.  This will actually cast the whole page, then put the video to full screen, you will still see the border of the web browser on your TV but it is better then watching on the small screen,  This may or may not work depending on your version of windows, but if it does, then you will have a workaround until the site gets things configured

so Smart TVs generally do not update their browsers and using a different one on a smart TV is not always an option either.  If the TV is a few years old, the browser is probably out of date ( in general TVs were built for watching TV and not browsing to a TV sit to watch) .  Paul used an older system and older players on BTVC, so old they were to the point of being discontinued, he did actually try a new player, but too many of the members were still using older equipment.  The new site is using a much newer player, up to date versions so it only makes sense to me that some people will have issues, I get that….  Retired, limited income, and trying to keep older tech so as not to spend, especially in todays economy.  there are often several ways to do things, maybe a cable is needed to connect the TV to your tablet or laptop, but I suggest that we wait until the new site is set up completely, at which time more options may present themselves.  When I was younger, I remember having to have lots of patience with my grandparents as new Technology presented it self and I had to teach them.  Unfortunately with so many new options, everyone watches TV in a different way now a days!

yes, the new site will most likely not have catchup, and true the new owner is not here in this forum, if you click on feedback on the new site you will see the 4 points, also the message on BTVC is very clear, tomorrow is the last day!  Radio Times is a full TV guide, but you can choose Freeview channels and it will thin out a bit, just remember its a full list and includes channels you do not get on the site, but I am sure there will be one shortly, remember James got thrown into the deep end so lets have patients

yes it is blank, but on the top right you will either see a “log in” or you will see three black dots, click on the dots and you will see a log in prompt to click on then use your same login info.  then a blank video will appear in middle of the screen and above it is a drop down menu to select your options

we are getting a small window into what Paul has been dealing with all these years, but I want to have patience  because most of the retired living abroad are probably reaching the senile or dementia stage, we have all had a parent or grandparent like that, So my wife passed away a few years ago and I am a very techie person and she was not at all.  If I had gone first she might be here asking some of the same questions,  Paul has an amazing personality to deal with that, knowing that I am happy his sister is with him, she will be taken care of….. so lets make sure we are positive until you know that whole story, just thinking back to how mean people were until Paul released his videos and how everyone changed their tune now.  but I promise you there are those who only know how to watch and never go to forums or know were to look for messages, it is sad but a reality……. love you guys…stay positive, do not let them drag you down.   smile

the new site has posted an update under feedback for those wondering about subscriptions and other issues

—–I have copied it here but you will need to go to the new site under feedback to see new message as they come in ——–

SORRY FOR LACK OF UPDATES / NEWS / REPLIES

Update 2: Don’t worry about membership dates. We are not blocking anyone from viewing – dates will be sorted at some stage.

Update 1: I’m having trouble integrating the multi-tier user database that was given to us. Having different “levels” is an unusual way to do things, normally there’s a single “level” with varying subscription lengths.

I know that error message, it means cloudflare is not configured correctly to use the Let’s encrypt certificate ( techy part ), there are four choices for the owner of website and the wrong one is accidently selected,   There is nothing we can do, except wait, it is a configuration on the part of the website owner, hopefully they see it soon and will fix it.

They are private, Paul will have to send you a direct link, send him an email

    in reply to: chromecast #190527

first make sure your smart tv and Chromecast are turned on, next start watching a channel on your phone, then on the top left side of the video you will see a white square box with some lines on the bottom left inside the box, This is the chromecast menu. if you touch this box you should see your TV as an item available to cast to.  I just noticed this box in the last few days so I think it is a new option.  I can not really verify it on android as I use iPhone, but I hope it works, maybe someone who has android can add to this post

I think if Paul was able to or wanted to he would have published them in the forums, but he did not ( the email was published but without the video links) and I am sure he has good reasons, however  unfortunately the group emailer seems to send emails directly to the SPAM folders,  Paul did give us his personal email on several occasions, I recommend a personal email to him asking for the links

It has always been this way, even before internet there where VHS and they were either PAL (UK EU) or (NTSB) Americas

then DVDs had region codes so you could not play them in other regions with the purpose of releasing things first in America then in the UK at a later date ( never understood why )

now geo blocking so that series on Netflix and movies are rolled out and delayed up to a year behind depending on regions , again WHY?  it is an archaic system and we are now in a global economy    maybe Paul would be better off geo-blocking his service to only work in the UK and sell VPN

BUT a message to PAUL  take care of your family first and foremost, I know when my wife was fading away from cancer, her last three months were so hard and the pandemic at the same time, I know I wanted to be strong but just had to push through,  you will make it,

When I first moved to Guatemala as a missionary, I struggled not having my BBC1 breakfast and actually found ROBs site and the forum helped me buy a satellite dish ( a big one) so I could get some free channels in English, Like most of you it was a lifeline to English TV and English language.  While I am still working in missions on a very fixed income, as most of us are, I would still be willing to make a donation, I know what it is like to be down, agreed please everyone lets help

in reply to: didn’t receive an email #189749

Email is more strict every day, mine was in the spam folder as the SPF value on the server Admin is using is not listed, some providers will place unverified email in SPAM folders while others will dump it in to a black hole.  Everyone using a domain name email must set up their own SPF1, DKIN, and DMARK records in the DNS.  these settings all changed last October and became mandatory, for most of us you email provider will take care of it, but if your email is part of your domain or website, it then becomes your responsibility,  it is all new rules to fight SPAM,  not saying that’s what happened, but most likely if so many did not get the email,

either way the website the email was directing us to can be found here in the forums, even though we were asked not to post it, some people did.
