there are several options to go multi satellite, but firstly you need to know what channels/satellites you would like, are you foreign or have a foreign relative and want some tv from home for them? Are you looking to learn a language and want some tv to help you? Are you looking for some free sports or films or such like? Are you fed up with paying subscriptions?There are many reasons why people choose to go multi satellite, once you know which channels you want and which satellites they are on you can make your choice about which multi satellite system would be best suited for you.
There are three common options to receive other channels/satellites, on this page i will explain all the options and also give some useful advice about setting up the satellite system yourself.
1) the monoblock - two satellites on one dish
2) the fixed dish - multi satellites with multi lnb's (covered here)
3) the motorized system - all satellites (page coming soon)

Multiple LNB's with fixed satellite dish
as easy and convenient as a monoblock‚ is, it does have some restrictions, mainly being that you are limited to two satellites, and that the monoblock's on sale only come with spacing's of 6, 4, or 3 degrees, so you are limited in which satellites you can choose to receive.
So you have decided a monoblock set up is not for you, it does not meet your requirements, you require satellites that are more than 6, 4, or 3 degrees apart, you need a fixed dish with multiple lnb's on it. Providing the dish is large enough, the satellite's signals are strong at dish end at your location and the arc/spacing between the satellites you require is not too great, a fixed dish with multi lnb's is for you. You can have any amount of lnb's on your dish, but that's when it gets complicated, the easiest and most common fixed dish/multi lnb system to have is a system with 2,3, or 4 lnb's on one dish,
to explain things in a clear and concise way i will concentrate here on the three most common satellites with the widest choice of free to air tv for us here in the UK, three satellites on one dish, 28, 19, and 13 degrees east to receive the three satellites located at 28, 19, and 13 degees east on one satellite dish, this is what you will need, i will explain in more detail what they are and what they do a little later.
1) the satellite dish, size is dependant on your location, i will be using a 80cm dish as this size is good for most of the uk and ireland
2) three lnb's, what type of lnb is up to you, it depends on how many rooms you wish to have satellite tv in, lnb's come as single (1 room/receiver), twin (2 rooms/receivers), and quad (4 rooms/receivers)
3) the receivers, depending on how many rooms you require satellite tv in, you will need a receiver for each room and for each lnb output, i.e with quad lnb you need four receivers.
4) a diseqc four way satellite switch, again dependant on how many rooms you wish to have (one switch per receiver)
5) a satellite signal meter for finding the satellites and then you will need a good run of satellite graded cable, f plug connectors and bolts to attach your dish to the wall. The satellite dish there are many choices for you when purchasing your dish,, an 80cm or 90cm dish is what you will need, it's best to have it wall mounted, but you can easily buy one to stand on a pole in th garden but it's more work securing wise, shop around, many firms supply complete multi satellite systems, meaning you get the dish, the multi lnb bracket and the lnb's too, sometimes cabling, fixings and all, alternatively you can buy all items seperately here is a photo of an all in one satellite dish and multi lnb bracket/holder, when you buy this type of system, you should know that the bracket is uniquely paired with the dish in the way it is assembled.
‚ for a range of‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ 
‚ This is a good system, usually the bracket supplies has a wide arc, meaning satellites some distance apart can be received together, once everything is attached and the prime/centre lnb is aligned, the other lnb's simply slide along the rail until the other desired satellites are located, in theory a good system yes, but in practice these types of dish/bracket systems are not without their problems, if you have not mounted the satellite dish exactly right on the wall, (i.e.the dish is not exactly 100% level/centre/plum) then you will encounter some problems aligning the other lnb's on the bracket, then a little hammer type diy is in order, because these brackets once attached to the dish can't be moved up and down, they are not easily bendable either, a bit of hammer type diy would be needed, but you would not be the first person and most certainly not the last to have to do this. This is why my personal preference especially for a novice satellite dish installer is to buy the dish and bracket seperately. Here is a photo of what you will need (except for the cable, bolts, connectors, and signal meter, all of which i will come to later) ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ 
‚ ‚ a satellite dish, three lnb's, a 4 way diseqc switch, a wall mount, and two multi lnb holders, please note you will need two of these types of multi lnb holders, whereas these brackets are more flexible than the other ones i told you about, they can be moved up and down and bent easily, the one drawback is they have a small arc, meaning only satellites close together can be received with one bracket, but two or more can be connected together to widen the arc very easily, also you will have a spare couple of lnb holders just in case one of them breaks as sometimes can happen.during installations. Here is a closer look at the bracket, it's so easy to assemble, sometimes the simple solutions are the best. ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ 
‚ You simply wrap one of the lnb holders on the bracket around the prime/centre lnb which is on the dish so to the installation, like i said earlier we are going for the three satellites, 28, 19 and 13 degrees east, so in this instance the satellite dish with the lnb in the dish's lnb holder will be the centre/prime focus lnb and it will be pointing at astra 1 at 19 degrees east. Cheap stand alone satellite signal meters can be bought, they start around ten pounds in price, these are attached to the lnb with a short fly lead of satellite cable, and attached to the receiver with a longer run of satellite cable, the problem with these type of signal meters is that will find the satellite signal no problem, but which satellite it will find you will not know straight away until you check at your receiver and do some sort of channel search, this is because most of the satellites use the same frequencies and symbol rates, most satellite receivers have an internal database of different satellites and the frequencies they use, they also have inbuilt signal strength and signal quality meters which are quite sufficient for finding the right satellites. So you might find it easier to have someone else looking at the receiver/tv while you are outside moving the dish, i have listed the free to air frequencies for these three satellites on a seperate page on this site, you can also contact me and i can tell you which frequencies to use to find each individual satellite, and which frequencies to use to fine tune each individual satellite, but please when you contact me give a brief description of where you are at and where you want to be, so to speak, also what receiver and dish size e.t.c. I am trying to connect to AStra 23,5,Astra 19,2 & Hotbird 13
I am using monoblock and I have no problem with 2 astra satellites,I can also connect to hotbird via single lnb,but I am unable to use all 3 satellites at the same time.I have bought 4way diseqc and also 2way satellite splitter for the monoblock.
I have also tried to connect to these 3 satellites using 3 single lnbs but same result.
It looks like only ports 3&4 are working on the diseqc switch.
Any idea what is wrong?
My receiver is openbox x800.
